A Dream I Dreamed by Yayoi Kusama

For the past few weeks I’ve seen these awesome modern art pics floating around Facebook with my friends as part of the exhibit, well last night I finally got to A Dream I Dreamed by Kusama Yayoi!

Seoul Art Center has been hosting this traveling show for about a month and when I first checked the website I thought I missed my opportunity!  Luckily they extended the exhibit 2 days until 6/17 and I made it just in time with my friend Beth.

There were 2 large rooms where photos weren’t allowed and were lined with paintings in a more traditional museum experience.  We both agreed that those were cool enough but not really our style.  Thankfully there were large portions where we were allowed to snap away!  (I forgot my camera but at least my phone camera rocks)

The Obliteration Room was next.  This was a phenomenal exhibit that presumably began as an all white furnished room.  Guests are given a pack of colorful polka dot stickers before they enter.  Being in the 2 bonus days of this month-long exhibit this place was indeed obliterated with color!

Up next was an eerie exhibit called Repetitive Vision, Phallus-Boat.  I have no words but there are two pictures!

Manhatatan Suicide Addict was up next.  It sported a massive screen with who I presume was Yayoi Kusama herself spouting some foreign language and mirrors accentuating the Wizard of Oz like display.

The last exhibit was perhaps my favorite second only to that kid friendly Obliteration Room.  I’m not sure if it had a name but they led us into a small enclosed room with a tiny peninsula of a platform on it.  4 or 5 people could fit at once before they closed the door and the lights, mirrors and water gave a dreamlike effect!

Kusama  Yayoi’s A Dream I Dreamed makes its way to your city I highly recommend it!  While I imagine her dreams may have been enhanced by some foreign substances they still produce an enjoyable level of family friendly modern art.
